The License Requirements
To obtain a PPL(H), the following requirements must be met: A minimum of 45 hours flying instruction, which must include at least 10 hours flying as "pilot-in-command". A valid Joint Aviation Authority (JAA) Class 2 Medical Certificate.
Passes in seven written examinations:
Aviation Law, Meteorology, Navigation Radio Telephony, Human Performance, Flight Planning, Helicopter Technical Radio Telephony practical exam, Cross-country navigation exercise, General flight test.
The requirements to complete 45 hours may be reduced by up to a maximum of 6 hours for holders of an aeroplane, microlight, gyroplane and glider licences. The total required time above must include;
(a) Not less than 25 hours dual instruction
(b) Not less than 10 hours of supervised solo flight to include at least 5 hours of solo cross country including a flight of at least 100 Nautical Miles with full stop landings at two different airports.
The above requirements shall have been completed on one type of helicopter and if the privileges of the licence are to be exercised at night a further course of at least 15 hours night training is required but only after 100 hours P1
